About Arizona Pool Fence Safety Day
Before a pool gathering, most Arizona families check the food, the drinks, the towels, and the sunscreen. But when was the last time you checked the fence? Arizona Pool Fence Safety Day, observed every June 30, is a few-minute reminder to secure the pool before summer celebrations begin. The stakes are real: according to the Arizona Department of Health Services, drowning is the leading cause of death among children ages 1 to 4 in Arizona, and the CDC reports more than 4,000 unintentional drowning deaths each year nationwide, with drowning the second-leading cause of unintentional injury death for children ages 5 to 14. Most of those deaths were preventable with a few simple steps. The day closes out National Safety Month and lands in one of the hottest stretches of the Arizona summer, right before the July Fourth gatherings when pools across the state are in near-constant use. A pool fence is not a substitute for active adult supervision, but it is the layer of protection that can stop a child from reaching the water unnoticed. Before the gathering. Before the celebration. Before anyone gets in the water. Secure the pool.
History & Timeline
Arizona Pool Fence Safety Day was founded by Dane Bramhill, owner of Safe Pools of Arizona, LLC and a Phoenix-area distributor and installer of Protect-A-Child Pool Fence Systems. Dane created the observance because he believes pool safety begins before anyone enters the water. He chose June 30 because it closes National Safety Month, it falls right before the July Fourth period when Arizona pools see some of their heaviest use, and it happens to be his birthday - a personal reminder turned into an annual one for every family in the state.
